Mawlana Abdul Basit
Mawlana Abdul Basit Raufi was born and raised in Queens, NY. At the age of 12, he began his journey of memorizing the Qur’an at Muslim Center of New York and completed it in two and half years. After reviewing it for the remaining half of the year, Abdul Basit then began the 7 years ‘Ālimiyyah program at Darul Uloom New York in 2016 under the tutelage of many esteemed scholars. Along with the ‘Alimiyyah, he was able to complete his Sab’ah Qirā’āt in the same institution under Mufti Abdul Muqtadir Sahib (May Allāh preserve him).
Once he completed his 6th year of the ‘Ālimiyyah program, he traveled to South Africa, under the advice of his teachers, to complete his final year of ‘Ālimiyyah at the renowned Madrasah Arabiyyah Islamiyyah (Darul Uloom Azadville). There he studied under many distinguished senior scholars, including the well-known Shaykh ul-Ḥadīth Ml. Fadhlur Rahman Al-Azmi (May Allāh Ta’ālā protect him).
Upon returning from South Africa, Abdul Basit served as an Imam and Hifz Instructor for a year and half in his hometown, New York City. Eager to seek more knowledge, Abdul Basit returned back to his local Madrasa, Darul Uloom New York and enrolled in the Takhaṣṣuṣ Fi Al-Fiqh Wa Al-Iftā’ (Specialization in Islamic Jurisprudence and Issuing Islamic Legal Rulings) under the tutelage of Mufti Manzoor Ahmad and Mufti Mahdi Alam (May Allah Ta’ālā preserve them). Currently, Abdul Basit is completing his second year of Iftā and simultaneously teaching in the ʿĀlimiyyah program at Al-Hikmah Institute.
